Angela Mombers
A love for history and costumes was instilled in me from an early age. My father worked as a guide at Loevestein Castle—and even lived there—while my mother trained as a needlework teacher and collected antique clothing.
After graduating as a Textile Engineer from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) in 1998, I spent many years working as a Senior Product Developer for various major jeans brands. As of 2026, I work as a lecturer in needlework, product development, and fashion.
I also completed a three-year training course in pattern drafting in Belgium (2007–2010) and obtained a diploma in the History of Costume from the Vogue Academy in Amsterdam (2016).
Inspired by television series, I began recreating historical costumes in my spare time around 2010. Over the years, I have delved increasingly into museum pieces, paintings, historical patterns, and the like, aiming to create the most realistic reconstructions of historical clothing possible.
This ‘hobby’ now occupies a significant portion of my week.
Many of the costumes I have created are for my own use; for several years now, we have also used them for historical re-enactment—recreating historical settings complete with décor, furniture, and period-appropriate activities.
In addition, I have frequently created costumes for museums and other re-enactors. Currently, however, this activity has taken a back seat due to our many other commitments. Since 2018, Jasper and I (we have been together since 1999 and married since 2007) have lived in a farmhouse dating back to 1640 in the countryside; we have furnished it with a focus on historical authenticity and enjoy the flowers, vegetables, and fruit from our own garden.

Acting has been my favorite pastime since early childhood. Together with my younger sister, I put on many performances in the attic of our family home. I also used that attic to build scale models of theme parks and organize game shows and exhibitions. It was clear from an early age: performing, entertaining people, and creating experiences are in my blood.
After completing my Gymnasium education and studying Business Administration, I launched my own company, "Groovements," which develops and organizes music events for the Dutch club scene and festivals. I am also active in the cultural sector as a musician and DJ across various genres.
In high school, my favorite subjects were history and drama. "Walking Through History" beautifully combines these two interests.
In 2016, I launched a new project called "Het Historisch Banket" (The Historical Banquet). Through this initiative, we organized medieval-themed parties for private groups at various locations. Once again, this project brought together the things I love: creativity, history, and—above all—the opportunity to transport people to another world and another era, creating a truly unique experience.
I have always believed that everyone should do work they are genuinely passionate about. Alongside history, theater, and music, nature plays a major role in my life. We live in an old farmhouse in a beautiful rural area. With this in mind, I decided to become a part-time landscaper in 2020, as nothing beats working outdoors. I now work as a foreman for a large landscaping company, maintaining stunning locations. In this profession, too, I hope to make the world a little more beautiful.
