Crafts

Historical Collar Workshop

In our historical collar workshop you can see how collars were made in earlier times. From the making of the lace, sewing the collars themselves to stiffening and setting the pleats.

The period is around 1620-1630, so that we can show both the process of flat collars and millstone collars. People can also try making lace themselves here.

Historical Tailor

Clothes make the man, that's how it used to be in the old days. Women were allowed to do alterations, but the tailor was by definition a man.

Come and see the tailor at work and learn more about this old craft. You can also try making lace yourself.

17th century fieldpharmacy

The fieldpharmacy is a mobile exhibition about the history of medicine in the 17th century. From local medicinal herbs to exotic ingredients from faraway lands, there are familiar and surprising things to discover in our pharmacy. Some of the complex recipes were already very advanced, while others were unfortunately even poisonous. Understand how pharmacists in the modern era developed remedies based on the theory of the four humors and tried to cure people of the numerous dangerous diseases of their time.

Like a craftsman, the pharmacist grinds his herbs, mixes medicines and rolls pills. And with an originally reconstructed cauldron, the special powers of medicinal plants are extracted in the fieldpharmacy. The pharmacist earned his income not only with his medicines, but also with cosmetic ointments, perfumes and even sweets.

We cordially invite you to join us on this exciting journey through the pharmacy in the early modern era. Dive into the world of healing, innovation and superstition.
